The witch Scary Godmother was tall, slender, and had uncontrollable, frizzy red hair poorly kept under her jagged and long witch hat. Her milky, white face was also slim. Her nose wasn’t too long but looked the part of a witch with its added curve. Her lips were black and her eyes spoke of exhaustion.

“I wanted to thank you,” Hannah Urameshi said to the witch in her round laboratory.

Scary Godmother blinked sluggishly, “‘kay.”

Hannah was forced to stand there awkwardly when it became clear the witch had nothing more to say, “Umm…”

“Stay in the room I set aside for you,” Scary Godmother returned to stirring her cauldron, “you’ll reopen your wounds if you strain yourself.”

“How did you,” Hannah looked at Scary Godmother curiously. It was only now dawning on her just the world she had discovered, “how did you save me?” Hannah remembered Jimmy’s words and Buggy’s slip of the trigger, “Why did you save me?”

“You were hurt. I acted,” Scary Godmother dropped a strange, shriveled fruit into the cauldron and a poof of yellow smoke came from it.

“You’re no ordinary doctor.” Hannah was unsure if the witch was truly listening but she soon had her assurance after she went on, “You’re a witch.”

“Oh gee,” Scary Godmother put her finger to her chin and bent back with her black skirt shaking from the movement. Without warning she bent over into Hannah’s face and made her eyes cross, “D”YUH THIIINK!?” She returned to her brewing.

Hannah calmed himself, “I can see you’re busy. I’m grateful for what you’ve done. I’ll go now.” Hannah was only able to take one step out of the lab.

“You can’t leave my home though,” Scary Godmother said, not moving her eyes away from her work.

“If I owe you a life debt then I’ll repay it,” Hannah turned back, “but I have to get back to...to my world.”

“Take one look outside and go back to your room,” Scary Godmother commanded.

Hannah gave her an unsure look before heading down the stairs to the crooked front door at the bottom. She opened it and saw it was night but the sky was filled with a brilliant collage of stars and other, moving celestial bodies. Though more kept to the horizon Hannah could see some type of orange auras dancing up and down.

“What the…” Hannah looked on at the sky in whimsical wonder until she gazed down onto the surface. From the structure she was in it all rolled down and turned into hills complete with various gravestones. The trees ahead were tall, twisted, and curled, “This world is…” a blue glowing, transparent cat floated up from the ground and flew around Hannah, “magical!”

“Yet not yours,” Bug-a-boo the monster stepped out from the side room. The ghost cat went to land on his large head.

“Bug-a-boo,” Hannah said, “you brought me here. I have to go back to my world.”

“I would love to warp you back kid but it takes a lot of energy to warp other people out. In fact I’m still trying to rest up for my own return.”

“But it can be done, right?” Hannah asked.

“Yeah, we’ll figure it out when things cool down. You still need to rest for a while,” Bug-a-boo cued the ghostly cat to fly off of him.

“But my cousin,” Hannah cried.

“Left you for a goner,” Bug-a-boo said, “I saw what that lot was getting you into. Should have intervened right there at the bar.”

“Something’s bad happened,” Hannah said with defiance, “and I’m going back to help Jimmy. No matter what he said...no matter what he did...he’s my cousin and he and his friends need my help. I know something else happened, I can...feel it. I can just feel it.”

Bug-a-boo glared at Hannah for a moment, “Interesting. Maybe I’ll have a talk with, hey!” Hannah had already began to run up the stairs, “wait, kid!”

Hannah barged back into Scary Godmother’s laboratory, “Scary Godmother, I-” she found she wasn't there. Only her equipment, books, and the pale tree planted in the back.

“Hannah,” Scary Godmother was standing on the ceiling behind her.

Hannah jumped back with fright, “Hey! You scared me.”

“I knew it wouldn’t take long for me to regret saving you,” the witch moved to the floor.

“You don’t  believe that,” Bug-a-boo said coming up the stairs, “giving her a room, maybe.”
“This isn’t your concern, Bug-a-boo,” Scary Godmother said.

“She has the sense,” Bug-a-boo said sternly.

Scary Godmother shook her head with a serious look, “She didn’t sense me behind her.”

“What are you guys talking about?” Hannah asked.

Bug-a-boo looked to Hannah and then to Scary Godmother, “You know what happened the other night. You think the King of the Night’s going to do anything about it?”

Scary Godmother gave Bug-a-boo angry, almost disgusted, look before letting out a sigh, “HARROOOOLLD!”

The building shook and thumbs could be heard coming from a lower level, “YYEEeeeeeEESS?” replied a hefty wolfman spinning out from around the first floor’s corner. He bent over out of breath giving Hannah a clear view of his light blue pajama shirt and My Little Pony fedora. Scary Godmother rolled her eyes but Hannah smiled on.

“But you can’t be serious,” Harold, or Harry as he preferred, cried to Scary Godmother as she led Hannah outside.

Scary Godmother stood by the entrance of a spooky, dark forest, “I’m going in. Bug-a-boo…”

“Yeah,” Bug-a-boo stepped up from Hannah’s side.

“Just...give her the run down and keep Harry from wandering,” after that the witch floated off into the woods.

“I’m listening,” Hannah wanted to get to point quickly now. She wasn’t fond of everyone rushing outside with no clue of what’s really going on.

“How do I put it…” Bug-a-boo scratched his chin and pulled Harry towards him after he tried to sneak off, “have you ever felt spiritually aware of mystical forces you couldn’t quite comprehend?”

“Maybe?” Hannah was unsure.

“Hmb,” Bug-a-boo shrugged, “look, everyone has potential to unlock their spirit senses. Mostly through meditation but the magic steroids the good Godmother was pumping into you and the life threatening situation itself unlocked yours. Once you’re fully spiritually conscious you can essentially start using magic powers and shit.”
“Cool!” Hannah cheered.

“If it weren’t so retarded!” Harry cried, “think about this clearly! What if I...get hurt!”

Bug-a-boo slapped Harry over the head, “We’re here so you can realize your potential. After that Harry will be your dummy.”

“And then I can get home,” Hannah considered what home was for second. Jimmy never even showed her his apartment.

“Warping takes a lot but it’s simple compared to master spells. It will take a lot longer to get your stamina back if you’re warping other people or powerful artifacts with you,” Bug-a-boo said. “Healing takes a lot of spirit energy too when it comes to healing anything that’s not attached to your own body. Hence why Scary Godmother is hesitant on getting you away from her so quickly.”

“There’s more going on with her though,” Hannah said.

“About that-” Bug-a-boo was cut off.

“Hannah. Meet me at the end of the trail,” Scary Godmother calmly called out.

Looking at the dark unknown of the forest trail Hannah took a deep breath, “Here I go.”

“We could go,” Daryl said to Katie.

The two were standing at the alleyway off of a busy neon street. The alley ended at a metal fence where the earth went down a hill. Mt. Fuji was clear in the background. The sun was setting and Katie still clinged to her gun wound.

“We need to have some clue of what everyone’s condition is,” Katie said.

“Jimmy’s dead, Katie,” Daryl said, “no one could survive getting shot up like that. He’s swiss cheese now. Hannah’s as a good as dead too. So what if Bert-”

“Bert wanted us to meet here,” Katie crossed her arms, “if he’s still kicking we’ll hear what he as to say.”

Daryl took Katie by the hand, “Jimmy isn’t here to give orders. We could leave this all behind.”

Katie pulled her hand back to herself when she spotted Bert coming down from an emergency stairway, “Bert.”

“Baseball head,” Daryl said in annoyance, “any reason why you couldn’t have just texted us.”

Bert was sipping a watermelon slushie when he approahced the two, “Wanted to make sure I was actually messaging you guys. If a clown took your phone...well, I didn’t want to walk into an ambush.”

“We’re here now,” Daryl said.

“Any word on Jimmy?” Katie asked.

“Jimmy could be dead for all I care. What went down with the clowns was his fault,” Bert spoke from the heart, “I’m here because of Hannah. She should be out there.”

“So the both of you have no love for Jimmy anymore, huh?” Katie asked.

“Forget Jimmy.” Bert tossed his slushie aside, “I saw some crazy ass shit that night.”

“Besides us getting our asses handed to ourselves?” Daryl asked.

“I handled myself fine,” Bert replied.

“Well what did you see?” Daryl asked growing tired.

Bert had to think about what to say, “Hannah should be fine. She was hurt bad but Bugs showed up and took her to get treated. I don’t know where they went but I know I trusted him for a reason.”

“What was Bugs doing…” Katie trailed off, “Ugh, I see. He followed us to see if we’d need help or not. Cute.”

“It’s your call if you want to help me look for him. I feel I owe it to Hannah after letting things play out the way they did,” Bert said.

“I still want to find Jimmy,” Katie said.

Daryl pinched his brows, “Wouldn’t Grapes know?”

“Only Jimmy made contact with him. But I’m after Hannah so if you’re with me…” Bert cracked his knuckles.

“We’ll stop by the Cathedral,” Katie walked off, “if he’s not there he has a place outside the city he sometimes retreats to.”

“Coming too?” Bert asked Daryl.

“Yeah,” Daryl got up close to Bert, “and after we find out Hannah bled out and that Jimmy’s body showed up in the papers...maybe we’ll go our separate ways.”

“Yeah,” Bert said, “mabe.”

Hannah stood outside a mossy grove in a forest clearing. Scary Godmother stood on a broke, stone altar in the center. On the altar was an idol of a dragon roaring at the sky, with glowing blue eyes.

“Proceed, Hannah,” Scary Godmother said, “set one foot on the altar and you’ll be strong enough to return home.”

“Simple enough-” Hannah said before she was bogged down by a great, unseen pressure, “What the!?”

The air around her felt thick, heavy, and almost moved before her eyes.

“This is raw spirit energy, Hannah,” Scary Godmother said, “the idol is emitting it without purpose. Reinforce your own aura and you can proceed.”

“How...do...I…” Hannah fell to her knees after a few steps closer to the altar. The world had become too heavy.

“Fight,” Scary Godmother began to file her nails, “or don’t. I don’t care.”

“Wh-why,” Hannah stood with anger but reflected on her situation. He took a step forward turning her anger into resolve, “Why do you act like this!?”

“Because I can,” Scary Godmother blew a spec off her nails, “Here’s a lesson for you. The strong do as they please.”

Hannah felt more anger but turned it into more resolve, “Than the strong,” she forced herself forward but again fell to her knees, “aguh!”

“Is that all?”

There was no response.

“Try again tomorrow,” Scary Godmother snapped her fingers and the force was removed.

“I’ll make it tomorrow,” Hannah said with pure determination.
“If you says so,” the witch floated off.

Hannah exited the forest and looked upon Scary Godmother’s home. It was a talk, lanky black castle overlooking the entire region. When she returned to it she told Bug-a-boo what had happened and he respectfully encouraged her to try again tomorrow.

Hannah tried again the next day but only made it a step farther, “Tomorrow…” Hannah said under her breath.

She tried the next again but only made it three steps farther, “TOMORROW!” Hannah said before collapsing onto the grass.

“Of course,” Scary Godmother closed her book and left.

On the fourth day Hannah was approached by Harry, “Have you ever been to a MOVIE theater?”

“Huh? Sure, lots of times,” Hannah said, sitting up from her bed.

“Really? What movies have you seen?” Harry bowed down like an eager dog.

“Avatar 2 was the last movie I saw,” Hannah wiped the sleep away from her eyes.

“But that’s so...so…” Harry itched at his ear, “You live in the human world! What’s more exciting than movies about the human world!”

Hannah giggled, “Fantasy films do well in, uh, the human world. It’s why I want to explore this world if I ever get the chance to.”

“Hmm, well if you wanted,” Harry stood up and smiled, “you and I could watch the king’s carriage come by outside of town! We’ll be back before you and Scary Godmother play your game for the day.”

“Who's the king?” Hannah stood from her bed.

“King Maxwell, the lord of Fright Side and the King of the Night,” Harry said dramatically before taking Hannah’s head, “Come. We’ll grab a snack from town and watch him ride by!”

“Well, okay-” Hannah was thrown onto Harry’s back and together the two headed into town.

The town, proudly known as Fright Side, was located just outside of Scary Godmother’s stretch of land. Even from the central park her castle tower could be seen in the distance.

The town was cozy enough with no building going beyond four stories. Many buildings shared the funny shaping of Scary Godmother’s home. The roads were bricked and packed with merry, cloaked ghouls, goblins, ghosts, trolls, and even a few rusty tinmen! A four armed jester juggled one side of the park and three guards dressed in purple and orange cloth sang and drank from their watchtower.

“This is the Drunken Pumpkin!” Harry pointed to a large pumpkin shaped building in front of the park, “We’ll grab a slice of Golbin Cake and a glass of Cider, all on your credible tab of course, and head out to the perfect spot!”

The large, bearded brewer inside gave Harry a dirty look but served him and Hannah well. After that the two continued off outside the town.

“Is that them?” Hannah pointed from a low-leveled cliff overlooking a field trial. Marching down the trail was a party of twenty skeleton soldiers with a skeleton carriage at the center.

“Shh, keep it down or they’ll think we’re bandits,” Harry gestured Hannah to hide behind a bush.

“Where does the king live?” Hannah asked.

“At his fortress further down,” Harry said, “his wife is Queen Ruby and their son’s name is Orson. They’re a little old fashioned for my taste though.”

Hannah couldn’t help but giggle considering how old fashioned Harry tended to act.

“Who goes there,” Commanded a thin, proud voice.

Hannah and Harry turned to see a young, pale soldier dressed in black armor had sneaked up from behind. His hair was a dark blue and fell down into his cape. His eyes were a heartless red.

“Why-I-I,” Harry stuttered at a loss for words.

“My names Hannah Urameshi,” Hannah said, “my friend and I came to watch the-”

The armored, young man approached Hannah, “Are you...a human?”

“A human!?” Harry asked in forced disbelief, “Here? Why, that would be impos-”

The armored man pushed Harry off of the short cliff. It was a quick fall but still Harry wailed out and overacted the alleged agony of the fall, “Oh woe is me! This, this is it! Never! Shall I recover…”

“I can see you better from here,” the armored man seemingly moved in for a kiss from Hannah!

“You jerk!” Hannah slapped the man, “that wasn’t very nice of you.”

The armored man grabbed at his face in shock before kicking Hannah back and away from the cliff, “THAT wasn’t very nice of YOU!”

Hannah stood up, “I don’t want to fight.”

The armored man smiled devilishly, “You struck me. That certainty tells me otherwise,” he drew his black blade, “And stalking our party? I could have you hanged for banditry.”

Hannah could see a red glow arise from the armored man and wave about him. It almosted leaned into her. “Is that? Hey,” Hannah stood her ground when he moved towards her, “don’t come any closer.”

Those words upset the young man, “You. Do not. COMMAND ME!” The armored man stopped in place and a gust of wind blew by Hannah while his red glow expanded. The moment the glow reached her Hannah reacted on what could have only been instinct.

“I SAID STOP!” Without control Hannah sent her own force towards the man and felt a great glow surge through her and blast out in all directions. It felt funny but more than anything it felt encouraging. Hannah felt, and she knew that she had become, awakened.

The spirit energy flowing out from Hannah knocked the armored man back a step before calming down, “What illusion is this!? A human with spirit senses!?”

Hannah wasn’t sure how to make the power she now had return in force but she spoke boldly anyways, “Please, go away, sir.”

A skeleton soldier ran up from the side, “My prince! The sun is rising! You must return to the carriage!” The skeleton looked to Hannah, “Is there...trouble?”

“Prince?” Hannah looked to the armored man in surprise.

“At ease,” the armored man commanded the soldier, “There’s no trouble.” He sheathed his blade, “I, Prince Orson, am not fond of sunlight, Miss Hannah. We’ll have to arrange another date for another time.”

The skeleton parted with his prince and Hannah looked to Harry who had just managed to climb back up the cliff.

“Did we win?” Harry asked, panting for air.

“Harry,” Hannah took a deep breath in, “...today.”
